Waimea Senior Care

Hi I'm Nicola Berthelsen
It is my job to head up a section of the Church we call Senior Care. I am responsible for, with the help of others in providing appropriate programmes and help for individuals, couples, families, and groups to enhance and support the people in the Wakefield Brightwater district who are senior citizens. This is achieved by working one on one with individuals, forming interest groups, organising activities and net working with the community.
If you need help or if you would be interested in helping,
You can contact Nicola Berthelsen 021-277-8061 or through the local Wakefield and Brightwater Anglican church office phone 5423694 email: brightwaterchurch2@gmail.com
A thought about aging.
It’s not easy getting older.
As we get older we face many challenges both physical and emotional. Many older people experience losses, social isolation and loneliness.
The world changes so quickly and as we get older it can be harder to keep up with the changes.
When I’m out and about in the community I come across people who inspire, encourage, show tremendous love, have understanding and incredible attitudes. Older people
have to make sure that they are greater than the mountains that they are climbing and enduring at the same time. A ‘never give up’ attitude shines through time and again.
I encourage you to spend time with an older person. Listen to their story, spend some time and you can be blown away.
To all the carers of older people, you do an amazing job and you are worth your weight in gold. Be encouraged to keep going - you all are true gifts and are so needed.
We recently had a fantastic day out on the double decker bus trip. Over 30 people came from both Wakefield and Brightwater communities. We also had a movie morning with treats and a shared lunch.
We are planning to have a cook up, which involves making meals for the freezer for senior people within Wakefield and Brightwater communities who may need a bit of support while going through a tough time.
